In the village of Bellad, in Aurad taluk of Bidar district, Sri Lalappa and Smt. Lakshmidevi were born in 1948 as sons to a poor Dalit family deeply devoted to Lord Shiva.
The spiritual influence on their lives began with the devotional practices and spiritual lifestyle maintained by their parents. At the age of 15, they were married, and their spiritual journey was shaped by the teachings of great saints such as Lingayatism and Basava philosophy. They dedicated themselves to long hours of meditation and spiritual practices every night. In 1975, they received initiation into Lingayat tradition at the Basava Kalyana Anubhava Mantapa.
Initially, they adopted 20 underprivileged children from Dalit families, providing them with food, shelter, clothing, and education. Their own livelihood came from agriculture and the modest income from their small plot of land. Subsequently, they established several institutions such as Basava Yoga Ashrama, Madara Channayya Prasad Nilaya, Haralayya High School, Basava Kalyana’s Basava Mahamane Trust, Neelambarika Shivayoga Kendra, Shivayoga Parishat, Dhyana Yoga Parishat, and Ekata Parishat. They authored 13 fundamental texts, including “Vachana Tatvasara” and “Vachana Tatvanubhava.” They have received numerous awards such as the “Basava Shri Award,” “Halakatti Award,” and “Jesus Christ Award.”
Their philanthropic efforts led to the establishment of free Basava Shri Hospitals in Kaura and Bellad villages. They actively spread the teachings of Basava philosophy through conferences, lectures, and seminars across India and abroad. They have been praised by numerous dignitaries as “The Invaluable Asset of Humanity,” “The Realized Shivayogis,” and “The Fortunate Deities of Our Land.”
