Distinguished senior authors who have excelled in the field of literature were honored.
Prof. N. G. Mahadevappa was born in 1937 in Chikkamagaluru district, to father Mr. J. Rudappa, who was a primary school teacher. He received his primary education in Hutur, under the guidance of his mentor, Mr. G. R. C. He pursued his B.A. and M.A. degrees in Philosophy from Maharaja’s College, Mysore, and obtained his Ph.D. in “The Concept of Shakti in Veerashaivism” from the University of Mysore. He served as a lecturer and reader at J.C. College, Haveri, and later as a professor and head of the Department of Philosophy at Karnatak University, Dharwad, before retiring in 1997. He provided successful guidance to Ph.D. students.
Prof. Mahadevappa has authored numerous books on philosophy and Vachana literature. His publications cover a wide range of topics including logic, metaphysics, interpretation of Vachanas, religious beliefs, and philosophical analysis. He has also published over 70 articles. Currently, he serves as the editor of “Lingayata Darshana” monthly magazine.
For his significant contributions to Vachana literature and philosophy, Prof. N. G. Mahadevappa was honored with the “Ramanashree Sharan” award in 2014 by the Akhila Bharata Sharana Sahitya Parishat and Ramanashree Pratishtana, which he cherishes with pride.
Prof. H. A. Bhikshavartimath was born on June 1, 1951, in Hanumapura, Ranebennur taluk, Haveri district. His father is Sri Adiveyaswami and mother is Smt. Deviramma. He obtained his M.A. in English from Karnataka University and completed his M. A. Philosophy from Harihara S.G.P.P. College. He served as an English professor for 35 years and as a principal for 5 years at Harhara Swatya Mahavidyalaya.
Prof. Bhikshavartimath has a great interest in Kannada literature, especially modern Vachana compositions. His literary works include Basava, Mincugonjalu, Hoobana, Vachana Simchana, and Nanna Kaviteye Hege. He has presented essays at various events such as the Karnataka State Literature Conference in Bidar, Beechi Centennial Celebration, and the Davanagere District Literature Conference.
He also served as the editor of English literature textbooks for the degree courses at Kuvempu University. He actively participated in community organization as the chairman and contributed to public awareness through theatrical performances.
His contributions to modern Vachana literature have been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the Akhila Bharata Sharana Sahitya Parishat and the Ramanashree Pratishthan’s support in 2014.
Mrs. Kasturi Shankar is a renowned name in the field of music. Her father, Mr. J.C. Shankarappa, was a freedom fighter from Mysore, and her mother was Girijamma. Since childhood, she displayed extraordinary musical talent and began singing publicly in 1972. She is the son of Arunachalappa, a renowned harmonium player, and the owner of the famous New Aruna Musicals institution in India.
Under the guidance of scholars like A. Subbarao and Dr. B. Harish, she received classical music training and has lent her voice to over 60 films in languages like Kannada, Malayalam, and Tulu. She has achieved success by singing with renowned singers like Jesudas, S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, and P.B. Sreenivas.
She has sung devotional songs, bhavageethe, and folk songs in various languages for radio programs. Her renditions of Sharanas’ vachanas and bhavageethe have made her immensely popular. She has been honored with numerous awards, including the State Award, Attimabbe Award, Karnataka Kalashree Award, Kadali Award, Kempe Gowda Award, and Vachana Sahitya Shri Award.
In recognition of her significant contributions to the field of music, Mrs. Kasturi Shankar has been honored with the Ramanashree Award in 2014 by the Akhila Bharatiya Sahitya Parishat and Ramanashree Foundation.
Established with the profound saying “ಅಪರಿಮಿತ ಕತ್ತಲೊಳಗೆ ವಿಪರೀತ ಬೆಳಕನಿಕ್ಕಿ ದೊಡೆ” (Bringing light into boundless darkness), the institution named ‘ಅಲ್ಲಮಪ್ರಭು ಪೀಠ’ (Allama Prabhu Peetha) is dedicated to facilitating dialogue between spirituality and intellectualism, with a vision to provide a form to the unconventional philosophies of the great sage Allama Prabhu, who was revered as the Guru by the Shunya Simhasanadheeshvara community of the 12th century.
Located amidst the natural beauty of Kantavara, a small village in South Kanara district, the Allama Peeth has embarked on various plans and ideas to transform them into action. The construction of an open-air auditorium named ‘ಚಾಟರ ಚೌಕಿ’ (Chatar Chouki) at a cost of ₹18 lakhs has been completed, while the establishment of the ‘ಮಹಾಮನೆ’ (Mahamane) administrative and research center, at a cost of ₹1.50 crores, is in progress. Additionally, a lecture series titled ‘ಅನುಭವದ ನಡೆ – ಅನುಭಾವದ ನುಡಿ’ (The walk of experience – the word of experience) on cultural enrichment is being held every Sunday.
The Peeth has also been instrumental in organizing lecture sessions sponsored by the Akhil Bharat Sharana Sahitya Parishat. The plan to publish lecture sessions annually from the Peeth has started with the publication of ‘ಕರಣ ಕಾರಣ-೧’ (Karan Karan-1).
The unwavering enthusiasm and dedication to instill the philosophical ideals of Allama Prabhu have earned accolades for the Allama Prabhu Peeth. It takes pride in being honored with the ‘ರಮಣಶ್ರೀ ಶರಣ’ (Ramanashree Sharana) award in 2014 by the Akhil Bharat Sharana Sahitya Parishat and Ramanashree Pratishthana.

Dr. S.S. Angadi is engaged in profound study and constant research in all aspects of linguistics, grammar, prosody, literary history, manuscript editing, and ancient literature.
Born in Yarajaravi, Belagavi district, Karnataka, on June 10, 1966, Dr. S.S. Angadi obtained his M.A. from Karnataka University and Ph.D. from Hampi Kannada University. He is a distinguished personality with numerous research works and publications, totaling over 80.
Dr. Angadi’s significant contribution to Sharana literature is fundamental, particularly in exploring the linguistic and prosodic aspects of Vachana literature. His works like ‘Vachana Sahitya Chandolaya’, ‘Vachana Sahitya Bhashe’, and ‘Vachana Sahitya ke Moolyankan’ deeply analyze the social dimensions of Sharana compositions, thus broadening the understanding of Vachana literature and paving the way for new reading methods.
He has been honored with several awards for his literary service, including the Muujaga Award, Lingaraj Award, Gulbarga University’s State-level Literary Award, Snehasetu Award, and Shivaratri Ishwara Award, among others.
Dr. Angadi’s remarkable service in the field of Sharana literature studies and research is applauded by the All India Sharana Sahitya Parishat, along with the Ramanashree Foundation, which awarded him the prestigious ‘Ramanashree Sharana’ motivational award in 2014.
From the very outset, spreading fragrance to the world like a blooming flower, Prashant Rippanpete has been showcasing his talent since childhood. Born on July 15, 1981, in Shivamogga district’s Rippanpete, he is the son of Shrimati Yashodamma and Sri B. Shekharappa. Right from his student days, he excelled in singing, public speaking, drama, and journalism, earning a diploma in journalism.
As the saying goes, “Home is the first school, and mother is the first guru.” Prashant’s mother, Yashodamma, nourished literature like farming. Prashant has published two modern Vachana anthologies, “Vachana Kusuma” and “Vachana Male,” under the patronage of Sri Marulasiddheshwara Veerashaiva Adhyayana Kendra, Kavalur, Dharwad, edited by Dr. Siddalinga Shivacharya Mahaswami of Kavale Durge.
He has participated in the 73rd All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in Shivamogga and the 11th All India Sharana Sahitya Sammelana held in Dharwad. He has delivered numerous lectures on Sharana literature, the Sharana tradition, Veerashaiva literature, and culture. Currently, he is popular for his special program “Hally Katte” on TV9. Prashant has been honored with various awards, including the Karnataka Jaagriti Award, the “Maulya Patrika Udhyama Ratna” Award, and the Karnataka Dasara Award.
Prashant Rippanpete, who exhibits his unique talent in modern Vachana composition, was honored with the “Ramanashree Sharana” Utsav Award in 2014 by the All India Sharana Sahitya Parishat and Ramanashree Foundation, which he cherishes with pride.
Jayapura Gwalior’s renowned vocalists, Pandit Panchakshari Swami Matigatta, the eminent music virtuoso from Belagavi, Sangeet Vidushi Mrs. Jayashree Patil, and Pandit Rajashekar Mansur, have been nurtured in the art of music from childhood. Dr. Jayadevi Jangamashetti, a talented artist who has acquired expertise, proficiency, and higher degrees in music, has been awarded a doctoral degree by Karnataka University for her dissertation on “Vachana Gayana Parampare – A Musical Study.” She has authored research works on Pandit Siddharam Jambaladinni.
Dr. Jayadevi Jangamashetti, a radio artist on Dharwad Akashvani, is both a classical and light music vocalist and a composer of ragas. She has gained popularity by rendering various forms of singing such as Vachanas, Bhajans, Dasavani, and stage songs.
She has published musical albums like Godhooli, Ragaranga, and Sri Siddalingeshwara Vani. She has performed in numerous music concerts organized by various associations, government, and outside Karnataka.
Being a member of the Karnataka Music and Dance Academy, Dr. Jayadevi Jangamashetti has contributed her services. She has been honored with titles like Amma, Vachana Sangeeta Ratna, Siddharam Jambaladinni, and Chenn-Akka.
Dr. Jayadevi Jangamashetti takes pride in being honored with the Ramanashree Sharana Award in 2014, along with the support of the Ramanashree Pratishthana, for her invaluable service to Vachana Sangeeta.
In the name of Akka Mahadevi, a beacon of devotion, knowledge, and renunciation, the institution “Akka’s Abode” was established in 1961 in Sollapur, Karnataka. The founding members behind the establishment of Akka’s Abode were Paragabai Kanale, Jayadevi Ligade, Sangavva Maadaki, and Nagavva Baavi. Today, Akka’s Abode has grown into a prestigious institution through the collective efforts of these individuals.
Since 1995, under the chairmanship of Mrs. Shashikala Maadaki, cultural and social activities have flourished. Competitions in Puranas, Vachana recitation, singing, rangoli, costume contests, and culinary competitions have enhanced the popularity of Akka’s Abode. Radio programs, excursions, and medical services have actively engaged members.
The Basava Center awarded them the “Ideal Institution” prize. Akka’s Abode currently organizes national festivals, blood donation camps, and other events of significance. The esteemed leaders of Akka’s Abode have been honored for their dedication and enthusiasm.
Despite being located in rural areas, Akka’s Abode, through its activities, has spread the principles and ideals of Sharanas. The future of Akka’s Abode looks promising, with continued support from the Akhila Bharat Sharan Sahitya Parishat and Ramanashree Foundation, who bestowed the 2014 “Ramanashree Sharan” inspiration award.
